Planning your Scottish break

Whether you’re looking for relaxation, action or cultural entertainment, there’s a Scottish holiday out there to suit your tastes.  Follow these top tips to enjoy your break to the full.

1. Know what you want: One of the great things about Scotland is that it offers a whole range of activities, from hiking and golfing to spa holidays and urban adventures. The key to making the most out of your trip is to know exactly what you’re looking for. Do you fancy exploring a windswept coastline, hiking up the country’s tallest mountain or seeing the Outer Hebrides by boat? Or would you rather visit stately homes, experience local festivals and get pampered in world-class beauty parlours? The choice is yours.

2. Plan your budget: Most of us have to stick to a budget when planning our holidays, so decide in advance how much you want to spend and stick to it. If you’re keen to add a little luxury to your break then it could be worth starting to save some time in advance – choose a high interest account with an established institution such as Santander, who offer a whole host of savings options. Make sure you do all the necessary financial planning before leaving for your holiday in order to make the experience as stress-free as possible.

3. Research, research, research: Nowadays, it’s easy to do your research on a destination – all the information you need should be available at the touch of a mouse. While the web is a great resource, it’s also a good idea to read guide books and travel magazines, too, as well as talking to tour operators and travel agents. The more research you do, the smoother your trip should go.

4. Create a schedule: Nobody wants to be constrained by an obsessively tight schedule while on holiday; but on the other hand you don’t want to be hanging around your hotel with nothing to do. Put together a rough itinerary, detailing the goals you’re keen to achieve on holiday and the sights you want to see. Whether you’re set on summiting Ben Nevis, seeing the Scottish National Opera or climbing Arthur’s Seat, a schedule will help you to achieve your aims.

Finally, it’s worth getting your trip booked up in advance so that you can really relax and unwind when you reach your destination.  Your Scottish holiday is a chance to get away from everyday life, so be sure you make the most of it.
